Chilika Lake in Orissa and Keoladeo National Park in Rajasthan were recognised as the first Ramsar sites in India.
There are 46 Ramsar sites in India, all of which are recognised as Wetlands of Importance under the Ramsar Convention. The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty that aims for the conservation of wetlands around the world.
