By comparing PM2.5 levels across the globe, IQAir strives to highlight a wide variety of air quality challenges as well as underscore the threat of human-caused air pollution. As per the World Air Quality Report 2020, Hotan, China was ranked as the most polluted city in the world. Ghaziabad ranked second in the list of most polluted cities in the world and first within India.
22 out of the top 30 cities were from India. Major sources of India’s air pollution include transportation, biomass burning for cooking, electricity generation, industry, construction, waste burning, and episodic agricultural burning. Transportation constitutes one of India’s leading PM2.5 emission sources, responsible for emitting pollutants and resuspending road dust
