The state with the least population in India is Sikkim.
It is also one of the smallest states in India in terms of size.
According to the Aadhar Statistics, the population of Sikkim is 0.67 million. The growth rate has increased by 10.01 percent compared to the previous census in 2011.
Topography is a major factor influencing the population. It has a hilly terrain and infertile land that prompts people to move to the Northern Plains.
It is also one of the least densely populated states in India(86 per sq km)
Lakshadweep is the smallest Union territory in terms of population.
