Polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) is used for launching remote sensing, earth observation satellites etc in low earth orbits. Geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) is used for launching very heavy communication satellites in Geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).
