The purpose of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is to ensure security and maintain stability across the vast Eurasian region, join forces to counteract emerging challenges and threats, and enhance trade, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
The SCO Charter was signed on 7 July 2002 and entered into force on 19 September 2003, thus 7 July 2002 is the formation date of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
