Did the Marathas defeat the Mughals?

The Mughal-Maratha wars which had began in 1680, saw the Marathas overwhelm the Mughals by 1707. The long and exhausting campaign had emptied the Mughal treasury and following the death of Aurangzeb, it’s military fortunes began to become even worse.

By 1757, they had reached the Mughal capital of Delhi itself, extending their Empire all the way to Peshawar.
