Four Indian states share their borders with Bhutan.These include the North Eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and West Bengal.
The Indo-Bhutan border extends to 699 km and was established on November 11, 1865, by the Treaty of Sinchula. It is an international boundary between the Republic of India and the Kingdom of Bhutan.
The Treaty of Punakha was signed in 1910,which added certain modifications to the former Treaty of Sinchula.
The only land access to Bhutan is through the border between India and Bhutan is through the districts of Jaigaon, and Alipurduar in West Bengal.

- The capital of Bhutan is Thimphu and Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is the king of Bhutan. Bhutan is also known as “Druk Yul” or the “Land of the Thunder Dragon”.
- The state religion of Bhutan is Vajrayana Buddhism.
- It is a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation(SAARC).
- It is one of the top performing countries in Human Development, peace, economic freedom, and lack of corruption.
