What are called coral reefs?

Coral reef ecosystems are intricate and diverse collections of species that interact with each other and the physical environment. These are made up of colonies of hundreds to thousands of tiny individual corals, called polyps. This marine invertebrate animal has hard exoskeletons made of calcium carbonate, and is sessile, meaning permanently fixed in one place.
