Shri Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is the present head of CBI. The CBI is headed by a Director, an IPS officer with the rank of Director General of Police. Till 2014, the CBI Director was appointed on the basis of the DSPE Act, 1946. In 2014, the Lokpal Act provided a committee for the appointment of the CBI Director. The appointment committee consists of the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition/ Leader of the single largest opposition party and Chief Justice of India/ a Supreme Court Judge.
