Do black tigers exist in India?

Black Tigers are just another variant or mutant of tigers, they are not a separate breed. These tigers have thick stripes of black colour on their body coat that almost negates the brown colour on the body. They are pseudomelanistic, characterised by wide, merged stripes. This is the result of the rare mutation in one gene, Transmembrane Aminopeptidase Q.

Black Tigers in India only exist in Odisha’s Simplipal Tiger Reserve.
