Urbanization can be considered as a factor for increased flooding. Removing vegetation and soil, grading the land surface, and constructing drainage networks increase runoff to streams from rainfall. Urbanization also increases impervious areas and decreases water infiltration, which results in an increased runoff, flood peaks, and flood volumes.
