- AGENDA 21, a comprehensive, non-binding plan to achieve sustainable development was adopted. The summit also led to the development of the Rio Declaration of Environment and Development and forest principles.
- The Conference of Parties (COP) is the decision-making body of the UNFCCC to promote and implement the key administrative and institutional decisions of the Convention. The first meeting of the COP took place in Berlin, Germany, in 1995.
- The Earth Summit paved the way for the Kyoto protocol and Paris agreement.
- The last Climate Change Conference was held in Santiago, Chile, in 2019.
