What happened during the partition of Bengal?

The partition of Bengal resulted in the entity of Bengal being divided into West and East Bengal. West Bengal was majority Hindu while East Bengal was majority Muslim, but left considerable minorities of Hindus in East Bengal and Muslims in West Bengal.

The partition of Bengal was carried out by the British viceroy in India, Lord Curzon, despite strong Indian nationalist opposition.
