Conversion of Decimals to Fractions
Once the kid has developed an understanding of decimals and fractions, it will be easy for them to convert decimals to fractions. But parents might wonder how to teach their kids the conversion of decimals to fractions. Just by following these 4 simple steps, a student can easily convert decimals to fractions.
- Step 1 – The first step is to check where the decimal point is placed, i.e. how many digits are there after the decimal point.
- Step 2 – zthen write the decimal in fraction form; for example, write 2.35 as 2.35/1. Now, as there are two digits after the decimal point, the students have to multiply both the numerator and denominator by 100. This means the students have to multiply both numerator and denominator by 10 for each digit placed after the decimal. If there’s one digit after the decimal, you have to multiply the numerator and denominator by 10; if there are 2 digits after the decimal, then multiply by 100, for 3 places after the decimal, we have to multiply by 1000 and so on.
- Step 3 – Once the students multiply the decimal with 10 or 100 or 1000 (depending upon the number of digits after the decimal), the decimal point will be removed, and they can get the number in the fraction form.
- Step 4 – Now, the last step is to convert the fraction to its simplest form. This example will help the kids to understand the steps better.
