Kidneys are present on either side of the vertebral column. Each kidney has a number of functional units known as nephrons. The left and right kidneys differ in size and position.

Left Kidney vs Right Kidney
Following are the important difference between left and right kidneys:

| It is placed on the left side of the body near the 11th and the 12th rib. | It is present on the right side of the body near the 12th rib. |
| It is positioned slightly higher. | It is positioned slightly lower. |
| Larger in size. | Smaller in size. |
| Blood is served by the left renal artery. | Blood is served by the right renal artery. |
Left Kidney
The left kidney is slightly longer than the right kidney (around 1.5 cm). Its anterior surface is linked with the stomach, left suprarenal gland, spleen, pancreas, and jejunum, whereas the posterior part is associated with the 11th and 12th rib, diaphragm, etc.
Right Kidney
Its anterior surface is linked with the liver, right suprarenal gland, descending part of the duodenum, small intestine, etc. The posterior surface is associated with the 12th rib, diaphragm, etc.
Thus we see how the left kidney is different from the right kidney.
