Multiples of 2

We know that the number “2” is the smallest and only even prime number. Any numbers that can be exactly divided by 2 are multiples of 2.  The multiple of 2 is the product of any natural number with 2. For example, 2 multiplied by 9 is 18, hence 18 is a multiple of 2. Some of the examples of multiples of 2 are 20, 44, 60, and so on. In this article, we are going to learn what are the multiples of 2, tables of multiples of 2 and solved examples with complete explanation.

What are Multiples of 2?

In simple words, the multiples of 2 are the numbers that leave no remainder (i.e. Remainder = 0), when it is divided by 2. It means, the numbers that are exactly divided by 2 are the multiples of 2.

First 10 Multiples of 2 are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20.

In other words, any number that can be denoted in the form 2n where n is a natural number is a multiple of 2. So if two values p and q are there, we say that q is a multiple of p if ‘q = np’ for some natural number n.

For example, 80, 60, 20 and 16 are all multiples of 2 for the following reasons:

80 = 2 x 40
60 = 2 x 30
20 = 2 x 10
16 = 2 x 8

(i.e) 80/2 = 40, remainder = 0

60/2 = 30, remainder = 0

20/2 = 10, remainder = 0

16/2 =8, remainder = 0.

Since the numbers are exactly divided by 2, the numbers 80, 60, 20, 16 are the multiples of 2.

Multiples of 2 Examples

Example 1:

Find the multiples of 2 from the list of numbers 5, 12, 6, 15, 21, 54, 48 and 61.

Solution:

Given that, the list of numbers: 5, 12, 6, 15, 21, 54, 48, 61.

We know that the multiples of 2 are the numbers that are exactly divided by 2.

Hence, the multiples of 2 are 12, 6, 54, 48.

Whereas, the numbers 5, 15, 21, 61 are not multiples of 2 as they leave the remainder value 1.

Example 2:

Akash receives Rs. 2 every day as pocket money. How many rupees does he receive in 1 week?

Solution:

We know that 1 week = 7 days

Hence, the pocket money received by Akash in 1 week = 7×2 = 14 Rupees.
