The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) was established in 1975 to monitor the education system for Classes 11 and 12. The board is responsible for conducting the examination for Class 12. In addition to this, the board also sets the syllabus, publishes textbooks, provides regulations, evaluates exams and announces results.

WBSED or the West Bengal School Education Department is the main educational authority responsible for implementing various educational policies of the West Bengal state government.
