My dear Riya,

How are you? I hope you are in good health. As for me, I am doing well. It has been a very long time since I last wrote to you. I have been waiting to meet you so I can tell you about my ancestral house, but I don’t think it is going to be possible anytime soon. Hence, I thought I could write to you instead.

I just came to know that our ancestral house, where we stayed for almost six years, is in ruins now. The house holds many memorable moments, and knowing that it is dilapidating day by day is bringing a lot of misery to my whole family. My cousin sent me a photograph of the current appearance of the house, and it looks like a ramshackle house. It breaks my heart to see the house like that. The main problem is that my uncle, the only person living there now, has not been taking much care to do any sort of repair to keep the house in shape.

We have become totally helpless, and we heard that the house would be run down by the corporation authorities if we did not do something about it at the earliest. Listening to my parents speak of all these burdens my heart so much. I really wish you were here with me.

Hoping to hear from you.

Your friend,

Varsha

Dearest Shikha,

I am sorry it has taken so long for me to write back to you. How are you and everyone at home? I had come to my native place for my cousin’s wedding, and the reception was held at our ancestral house. It was one of a kind.

You know of all people how much I loved our ancestral house. After all, it was where I grew up. It was the place I called home. It sure did bring back a lot of memories, and being there with my whole family made me very emotional. Moving from room to room, my eyes started welling up with tears. Everything looked the same except that they had painted the whole house again and had furnished the house completely. All the artefacts were still intact, giving the house the antique and ancient look that I have always admired. Do you remember the old wooden hammock where we used to sit and chat, especially in the middle of the night? I knew I missed you the moment I caught sight of it.

Well, all I can say is that it was definitely a trip down memory lane, and I have decided that I want to host my reception here too. I can’t wait for us to plan all of it. Hope to see you soon.

Lots of love,

Juan
