Coordination compounds with a metallic element as the central atom are known as metal complexes. The central atom of these coordination complexes is usually a transition element. It is worth noting that the central atom in these complexes is referred to as the coordination centre. Coordination compounds find many applications in electroplating, textile dyeing and medicinal chemistry.
