Prelims: Non Communicable Diseases
Context: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare has highlighted India’s commitment to combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs).Â
- The government pointed out that the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) was launched in 2010 to strengthen infrastructure, develop human resources, promote health, and provide early diagnosis, management, and referral services.Â
- E-Sanjeevani, a teleconsultation service for NCDs, leverages IT to overcome barriers of geography and accessibility.Â
- The Union Minister also emphasized the importance of digital health technologies in enhancing last-mile delivery of healthcare services.Â
- The National NCD Portal captures primary-level information for reporting and monitoring compliance with NCD treatments.
- Furthermore, the unified health record system, linked to a unique health ID (ABHA ID), ensures data availability and continuity of care between facilities.
India has also launched the 75/25 initiative, aimed at screening and providing standard of care for 75 million individuals with hypertension and diabetes by 2025.
