Prelims: Central Electricity Authority (CEA)

Context: The 50th Foundation Day celebration of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) was held on March 14, 2023, in New Delhi. 

    • Central Electricity Authority (CEA)
      • It is a statutory organization under the Ministry of Power. 
      • The functions and duties of CEA arise from the Electricity Act, 2003. 
  • Functions: 
      • Advise the Central Government on matters related to national electricity policy. 
      • Specify technical standards for the construction of electrical plants, electric lines, and grid connectivity.
      • Promote research in matters affecting the generation, transmission, distribution, and trading of electricity

2. World Health Summit 2023

Prelims: Non Communicable Diseases

Context: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare has highlighted India’s commitment to combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs). 

  • The government pointed out that the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) was launched in 2010 to strengthen infrastructure, develop human resources, promote health, and provide early diagnosis, management, and referral services. 
  • E-Sanjeevani, a teleconsultation service for NCDs, leverages IT to overcome barriers of geography and accessibility. 
  • The Union Minister also emphasized the importance of digital health technologies in enhancing last-mile delivery of healthcare services. 
  • The National NCD Portal captures primary-level information for reporting and monitoring compliance with NCD treatments.
  • Furthermore, the unified health record system, linked to a unique health ID (ABHA ID), ensures data availability and continuity of care between facilities.

India has also launched the 75/25 initiative, aimed at screening and providing standard of care for 75 million individuals with hypertension and diabetes by 2025.
