1. Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP)

Prelims: Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP)

Context: The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways will launch the much-awaited Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). 

Bharat New Car Assessment Progrmme (Bharat NCAP)

  • India’s Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) seeks to improve the safety of motor vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
  • It represents a significant advancement in the government’s commitment to enhancing traffic safety.
  • The program’s goal is to give automobile buyers a tool to compare the collision safety of the various motor vehicles on the market.  
  • Automobile manufacturers may voluntarily submit their vehicles for testing in accordance with Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197 under this scheme. 
  • The vehicle will receive star ratings for Adult Occupants (AOP) and Child Occupants (COP) based on how well it performed in the testing. 
  • These star ratings can be used by prospective car buyers to compare the safety features of several models and decide which one to buy.

Significance of the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP)

  • The need for safer vehicles is anticipated to rise, which will motivate automakers to meet consumer demands. 
  • High safety standards will enable Indian automobiles to compete more successfully on the international market, boosting the country’s automakers’ ability to export their products. 
  • The plan is anticipated to create a safety-conscious automobile market in India.

2. Digital Governance Plan

Prelims: Digital Governance Plan

Context: Union Minister of State Science & Technology and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister  discussed the Digital Governance Plan for Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh and Good Governance

  • The first survey of districts conducted by any state in the nation is going to be published by the Uttar Pradesh District Good Governance Index (DGGI) 2022.
  • According to the Good Governance Index (GGI) Report, 2021, produced by DARPG, Uttar Pradesh’s performance has increased by 8.9% since the GGI 2019 results. 
  • In terms of citizen-centric government, including the settlement of public grievances, Uttar Pradesh has likewise succeeded admirably.
  • According to the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA) 2021 index, which is published by DARPG twice a year, Uttar Pradesh placed second among the large states in the evaluation of portals and service portals with a compliance rate of more than 85%.

3. Localization of (LSDGs) Sustainable Development Goals in Panchayats

Context

The Ministry of Panchayat Raj is organizing the National Workshop on Localization of Sustainable Development Goals in Gram Panchayats. 

Background:

  • The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals went into force on January 1, 2016. 
  • The Indian Ministry of Panchayat Raj has adopted the thematic approach to the SDGs, which aims to ensure “local action” in order to realize the “global plan”. 
  • By grouping 17 “Goals” into “9 Themes,” the strategy seeks to localize SDGs in rural regions through PRIs, particularly Gramme Panchayats.
  • The three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) must properly comprehend, internalize, and apply the concept and its procedure for the LSDGs to be implemented in a way that ensures no one is left behind.

Good Governance and Localization of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)

  • Good governance is a crucial component of the country’s socio economic development, according to the LSDGs’ Theme 8’s vision. 
  • Service delivery and progress are directly correlated with good governance. 
  • It focuses on the duty of Gram Panchayats to provide timely, effective, and transparent delivery of all citizen services in order to serve the people.
  • A very active Gramme Sabha with significant public engagement, informed discussion, and inclusive decision-making is a requirement for good governance in a village. 

4. Youth 20 (Y20) Summit

Prelims: Youth 20 (Y20) Summit

Context: Under the overall framework of G20 Presidency, the Y20 India engagement Group meeting concluded successfully in Varanasi today.

About Youth 20 (Y20) Summit

  • Y20 is a component of the G20‘s overarching structure, which the Indian Presidency has used to establish new benchmarks for the global community. 
  • The Brazilian Head of Delegation received the Flag from the Y20 India Chair in an official ceremony.
  • It will make sure that young people’s voices are heard by the most important decision-makers on a global scale.
  • The task of organising the Youth20 (Y20) Summit-2023 has been assigned to the Department of Youth Affairs within the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India.
