Context: PM addressed the 350th year of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day
Details:
- Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 350th year of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day.
- The coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has a special significance in history as it reflects fundamental principles of self-governance, good governance, and prosperity.
- It was highlighted by the PM that “National welfare and Public welfare” were basic elements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s governance.
- He further stated that the reflection of the thoughts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj can be seen in the vision of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.
- The coronation day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is fondly celebrated in Maharashtra.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had a bold style of action, strategic skills, and a peaceful political system that holds significance even in the present scenario.

2. City-Recycler Connect workshop

Details:
- The nationwide campaign ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ was launched on 15th May 2023.
- The core principle of the campaign is Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR).
- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in association with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) organized a City-Recycler Connect workshop on 1st June 2023.
- It aims to assist cities in effectively undertaking recycling and repurposing activities.
- Moreover, it will strengthen forward linkages.
- It brings together cities, states, agencies working in digital space, recyclers, and recycling associations.
- It should be noted that urban India produces approximately 1.45 lakh tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and around 35 to 40% is dry waste.
- Majority of the dry waste has the potential of being reused and recycled.
- However, there are challenges like limited collection channels and high transportation costs.
- During the event, a document on best practices in the context of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and for helping cities and states to formulate appropriate strategies was also launched.
