47 IAS officer from 75 households: Story of Madhopatti village

 

The Civil Services Day is organized on 21st April annually when civil servants devote themselves to the cause of the people and renew their obligation to the nation as well as public service. This day accords with the date on which SardarVallabhbhai Patel had made a speech in the first batch of probationers at the All India Administrative Service Training School at Metcalfe House in1947.

Madhopatti is a small village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. It has entered into the book of history by making a noteworthy contribution to the governance of the nation. The village, which has about 75 households, has given India 47 IAS officers.

 

Mustafa Husain is the first IAS officers from this village to crack nation’s toughest competitive Examination- UPSC IAS Exam. He is the son of the poet Wamiq Jaunpuri, who cracked the Civil Services examination in 1914 and later he joined the PCS.

Mustafa Hussain was trailed by Indu Prakash who also cracked Civil services examination by securing the second rank in 1952.

 

From that point, a trend of sorts began and every youth aspired to become an IAS officer. And it is safe to say that most of them succeeded.  

There has been no thinking back for the village since. While many youths decided on a profession in Civil Services, a few youths from the village have similarly discovered fruitful careers with the ISRO, the Bhabha Atomic Research Center and the World Bank.

 

The Madhopatti village lately broke the record after four siblings from the village cracked the UPSC IAS Exam and got selected for the Indian Administrative service. One of them also served as the Chief Secretary of Bihar.
