The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India’s leading central government agency that conducts many exams that recruit officers and staff into various services of the central government. The UPSC is perhaps most known for the civil services exam that it conducts every year. But it also holds many other exams. This article gives you a list of all exams conducted by UPSC every year.

Civil Services Examination (CSE)
This is the exam through which officers for the Indian civil services are recruited. The services include IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, IDES, IIS, etc. See the list of services included under the ambit of the civil services exam here. For the CSE, the candidate must at least be a graduate to be eligible to take the exam.
Engineering Services Examination (ESE)
This exam recruits officers into the Indian Engineering Service (IES). An IES officer functions in very technical areas like roads, railways, manufacturing, power, etc. He/she must be an engineering graduate to qualify for the exam.
Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
This exam recruits people into the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Air Force Academy and the Officers Training Academy. This exam is held twice a year and only unmarried graduates are permitted to take the exam.
National Defence Academy Examination (NDA)
This exam is conducted by the UPSC twice a year for a candidate to gain entry into the National Defence Academy. The candidate must be twelfth pass out and unmarried for eligibility.
Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE)
This exam is for recruitment into the various services such as the Indian Ordnance Factories Service and the Indian Railways under the Indian government as Medical Officers. For this the candidate must be qualified doctors.
Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service Examination
This exam recruits Grade IV officers into the Indian Economic and Statistical Services.
Indian Forest Services Exam
This exam is for recruitment as Indian Forest Service Officers. Here the prelims exam is the same as the civil services exam. The mains exam is different. Read more here.
Special Class Railway Apprentices Exam (SCRA)
This exam is held by the UPSC for entry into the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur for an undergraduate course in mechanical engineering.
Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination
This exam recruits people into the Geological Survey of India as geologists, geophysicists and chemists. This exam is also for hydrogeologist posts in the Central Ground Water Board.
Central Armed Police Forces Exam
This exam is for recruitment of Assistant Commandants in the Central Armed Police Forces.
