Context:

President of India graces the 10th convocation of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya.

About Guru Ghasidas:

  • Guru Ghasidas (1756 – 1850) was a spiritual Guru of the Satnampanth, also called the Satnami Samaj or Satnami Movement.
  • He preached his teachings in the forests of Chhatisgarh.
  • He was the founder of the Satnami community which was based on truth and equality.
  • He preached against the prevalent social evils such as caste inequality and animal sacrifice.

2. Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards

Context:

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das rated A+ in Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023.

What are Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards?

  • The Central Banker Report Cards assess and grade the performance of central bank governors in 101 significant countries, territories, and regions, encompassing entities such as the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
  • It is an annual publication by Global Finance since 1994.
  • Switzerland’s Thomas J. Jordan and Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Hong are the other two central bankers that have been rated A+ by Global Finance. Mr Das has been placed at the top of this list.

3. INS Delhi

Context:

INS Delhi is on a visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka.

INS Delhi:

  • INS Delhi is the Indian Navy’s first indigenously designed and built guided missile destroyer.
  • It was commissioned in November 1997.
  • The ship has recently undergone a mid-life upgrade and is equipped with the latest weapons and sensors.

4. NCERT

Syllabus: GS-2, Governance, Education

Prelims: NCERT

Context:

Education Minister announces NCERT as Deemed-to-be-University.

Details:

  • The minister made the announcement during the 63rd Foundation Day Celebration of NCERT.
  • NCERT has established a formidable presence in research, and actively shaped school education, teacher training, and adult literacy in the country.
  • NCERT on becoming a research university will offer opportunities for global collaborations and contributions to the global educational landscape, said the minister.
  • As the top organisation for school education in the country, NCERT undertakes various activities and programmes, including educational research and innovation, and the development of curriculum and textual and teaching-learning materials.
  • The NCERT was founded under the Society Act in 1961 with the chief purpose of providing assistance to the government in the domain of education.
  • With the new status, NCERT will be able to provide graduate, post-graduate and post-doctoral degrees.

5. Literacy Week

Syllabus: GS-2, Education

Prelims: Literacy Week

Context:

Ministry of Education observes Literacy Week from 1st to 8th September 2023 under ULLAS: Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram.

Details:

  • The Government of India has decided to organise a literacy week from 1st September to 8th September 2023 to celebrate International Literacy Day for generating awareness among all the stakeholders/ beneficiaries/citizens about the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram.
  • A Centrally Sponsored Scheme ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram on Education for All (erstwhile termed as Adult Education), was approved by the Government of India for implementation during FYs 2022-27 in alignment with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. 
  • The Scheme has five components, namely (i) Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, (ii) Critical Life Skills, (iii) Basic Education, (iv) Vocational Skills, and (v) Continuing Education.
