Important Dates and Events in December for IAS

World AIDS Day

The World AIDS Day is observed on 1st December. The day was established by the World Health Organisation. The theme of World AIDS Day 2018 was ‘Know Your Status’. The day was first observed in 1988.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3rd December. The day was designated by the United Nations. The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2018 was ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’. The day was first observed in 1992.

International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day is observed on 5th December. The day is designated by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of International Volunteer Day 2018 was ‘Volunteers build Resilient Communities’. The day was first observed in 1986.

World Soil Day

World Soil Day is observed on 5th December. The day was first observed by the International Union of Soil Sciences in 2002. Thereafter it was universally acknowledged by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013. The theme of World Soil Day 2018 was ‘Be the Solution to Soil Pollution’.

International Anti-Corruption Day

International Anti-Corruption Day is observed on 9th December.  The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of International Anti-Corruption Day 2018 was ‘Moris san koription depan lor mwa’. (Meaning: Mauritius rid of corruption rests on me) The day was first observed in 2003.

United Nations Human Rights Day

United Nations Human Rights Day is observed on 10th December. The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of United Nations Human Rights Day 2018 was ‘Let’s stand up for equality, justice and human dignity’.
