Context: First Global Buddhist Summit will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Details:
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first Global Buddhist Summit in New Delhi on 20th April 2023.
- The Ministry of Culture along with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) will host the summit.
- Prominent Buddhist monks from different countries will visit India and take part in the summit.
- The theme of the summit is “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis”.
- It will enhance the cultural and diplomatic relationships with other countries.
- The discussions during the summit will fall under four major categories:
- Buddha Dhamma and Peace
- Buddha Dhamma: Environmental Crisis, Health, and Sustainability
- Preservation of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition
- Buddha Dhamma Pilgrimage, Living Heritage and Buddha Relics: a resilient foundation to India’s centuries-old cultural links to countries in South, Southeast, and East Asia.
- The main vision is to look into the teachings of the Shakyamuni Buddha that have been continuously enriched over the centuries with the practice of Buddha Dhamma.
- It will explore how the Buddha Dhamma’s fundamental values can provide inspiration and guidance in the contemporary world setting, driven by technological advancements and consumerism.

2. YUVA Portal
Syllabus – GS 2, Polity and Governance.
Mains: Government policies and interventions.
Prelims: YUVA Portal.
Details:
- YUVA portal has been launched to help in connecting and identifying potential young Start-Ups.
- It was highlighted during the inaugural event that unless the stakeholders’ participation is broad-based, the StartUps may not remain sustainable.
- The Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the success of the “One Week- One Lab” campaign, which was launched on 6th January 2023.
- Under the “One Week- One Lab” campaign, each of the CSIR labs will display its innovations and technological breakthroughs to the people of India.
