Prelims: World Archery Championship

Context:

Indian women’s team clinched India’s first-ever Gold Medal at the World Archery Championship.

Details:

  • India’s first-ever Gold Medal at the World Archery Championship was won by the women’s team.
  • The event was held in Berlin. 
  • This series of archery competitions are conducted by the World Archery Federation (WA).
  • The first such event was held in 1931. It is an annual event.

2. Bureau of Indian Standards

Syllabus: GS-2, Polity and governance

Prelims: Bureau of Indian Standards

Context:

Bureau of Indian Standards signs MoU with 35 institutions.

Details:

  • The MoUs were signed for fostering collaboration in standardization and conformity assessment. 
  • The institutions included some prominent NITs, Government and Private Engineering colleges from different states across the country.
  • The MoU will pave the way for the partner institutions to participate in standardization activities by associating with the technical committees of the Bureau at the national and international levels.
  • They will help in getting infrastructure support for relevant R&D Projects.
  • They will also help in introducing standardization curricula in academics, among other benefits.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS):

BIS is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

3. ​Theppakadu Elephant Camp

Prelims Facts

  • It is one of Asia’s oldest Elephant camps, located in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
  • It was established in 1972 and is run by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
  • It is situated on the banks of the river Moyar.
