Digi Yatra
- The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation, Shri Suresh Prabhu released the policy on biometric based digital processing of passengers at airports called “Digi Yatra”.
- DigiYatra Central Platform will be operational by end of February, 2019. Bangalore & Hyderabad International Airports will be ready with pilot implementation by end of February, 2019.
- Any service provider involved in facilitating travel of passenger from door to door will be able to use this platform in future through innovative solutions.
- It is a Facial Recognition based passenger processing which is a common standard being adopted the world over.
Process Involved:
- This DigiYatra ID will be shared by passengers while booking ticket.
- Airlines will share the passenger data and DigiYatraID with the departure airport.
- A passenger who has created the Digi Yatra ID has to undergo a one time verification at the departure airport during his/her first travel.
- If a passenger opted for Aadhar based verification, the identity will be verified online. On successful verification, facial biometric will be captured and stored in the Digi Yatra ID profile of the passenger.
- In case the passenger has chosen any other identity for creating Digi Yatra ID, verification will be done manually by Security personal and facial biometric will be captured and stored in the Digi Yatra ID profile.
- A successfully registered passenger can go directly to the entry point E-Gate of the airport and scan the barcode/ QR code of the ticket/ Boarding pass. A camera will capture the face for comparing with DigiYatraID Photo. On successful verification of the travel details and facial matching, the E-Gate will open. The system will also generate a token in the system combining the face of passenger with PNR of the ticket, so that at subsequent check points the ticket details will be available on face recognition.
India and Kazakhstan agree to boost Defence and Military Technical Cooperation
- Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman was on a three-day visit to Astana, Kazakhstan from October 02, 2018 at the invitation of Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Nurlan Yermekbayev.
- India and Kazakhstan Defence Cooperation includes military-technical cooperation, military education and training, joint military exercises, bilateral exchange of visits and cadet youth exchange programs.
- Conducted a company level joint military exercise ‘KAZIND-2018’ in South Kazakhstan, last month.
- India and Kazakhstan are bound by historical and cultural ties and this has laid a strong foundation for the multifaceted cooperation. Both countries are Strategic Partners since 2009.
- India’s partnership with Kazakhstan in UN Peacekeeping reflects its desire to support Kazakhstan in its contribution to global peace. The contingents of both countries worked together over the past one year to prepare for this joint deployment.
Dialogue with Organs for Allied Health Force – A step to Enhance Cognitive Skills
- Smt Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare inaugurated a symposium cum exhibition on ‘Dialogue with Organs for Allied Health Force – A step to enhance cognitive skills’.
- She stated that organ donation and body donation is one of the noblest things that one can do.
Organ transplantation in India:
- National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) under the ministry of health and family welfare was setup in 2014 to oversee the process of Organ transplantation. Under NOTTO two organizations are present, namely, Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO) and SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant organization).
- In India, Tamil Nadu has a highest number of organ donations. India needs an estimated 6 lakh kidney donations annually, only 6,000 kidney transplants take place. The number of heart transplants is just inching close to 500.
Offshore Wind Target
- A session titled ‘A Leap into Offshore’ was held at the 2nd Global RE-INVEST India-ISA Partnership Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo.’
- Mr Ulrik Stridbæk, VP, Head of Regulatory Affairs, Ørsted Wind Power said, “The Indian government and policy makers are on the right path as they have set clear targets. The scenario is very promising. Off shore wind power is the shooting star in the renewable energy sector and it is competing with conventional technologies and driving cost reduction.”

- RE-Investis a global platform to explore strategies for development and deployment of renewables. It showcases India’s clean energy market and the Government’s efforts to scale up capacity to meet the national energy demand in socially, economically and ecologically sustainable ways.
- The 2nd Global RE-Invest will build upon the success of RE-Invest 2015 and provide an international forum to established players as well as new segments of investors and entrepreneurs to engage, ideate and innovate.
