UPSC IAS Result 2018 is out

The UPSC released the final results of the 2018-19 civil services exam. A total of 759 candidates were recommended to the services this time. The list of successful candidates include 36 physically challenged candidates as well (comprising of 12 visually challenged, 11 orthopedically handicapped, 11 hearing impaired and 2 with multiple disabilities).

UPSC conducted Prelims 2020 on 4th October. Civil Services Prelims 2020 Result was declared on 23rd October.

The All-India rank 1 has been secured by Kanishak Kataria, an engineering graduate from IIT Bombay. The topper among women candidates is Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, who has also secured the overall fifth rank. Kataria is a B.Tech holder in Computer Science and Engineering and had taken Mathematics as his optional in the UPSC mains exam. He belongs to the SC category. Deshmukh is a chemical engineering graduate from Bhopal.

The UPSC Mains (written) exam was conducted in September-October last year and a total of 10468 candidates had qualified to appear for it. Out of this, 1994 candidates had qualified for the UPSC Personality Test, which was conducted in February-March 2019. Out of the 759 candidates who have cleared the UPSC civil services exam, 577 are men and 182 are women. The successful candidates will now be posted to various services such as the IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, etc. The preliminary exam, held in June 2018 saw 4,93,972 candidates appear for the exam.

The prelims for the 2019 UPSC exam will be held on 2nd June 2019. The UPSC result 2019 for the prelims will be out in July end or early August. The final IAS Result 2019 will be released in 2020 after the personality tests are done.

This time, there are 180 vacancies for the IAS, 30 for the Indian Foreign Service, 150 for the IPS, 384 for the Central Services Group ‘A’ and 68 for the Group ‘B’ services. The candidature of 109 recommended candidates is provisional.

The second rank went to Akshat Jain, an alumnus of IIT Guwahati. His father is an IPS officer and his mother, an IRS officer.

Among the top 25 successful candidates, 15 are men and 10 are women. The academic backgrounds of the top 25 candidates are diverse and include engineering, economics, law, sciences, political science, mathematics, history, commerce and public administration. They are from institutes such as IITs, NLU, NIT, DU, BITS Pilani, Anna University, Mumbai University, Pune University, etc. The optional subjects of the top 25 include mathematics, chemistry, anthropology, commerce and accountancy, geography, law, political science, history, public administration, sociology, psychology and English literature.
