The threat of anthrax has erupted at Jamuguda village in Kashipur block of Rayagada district in Odisha.
- The Rayagada Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has not yet confirmed any deaths due to anthrax disease in the distric.
- Consumption of infected meat lead to anthrax infection among people in remote areas of Odisha.
- In south Odisha, cutaneous infection of anthrax is more widespread.
Anthrax is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis and animals are the ones that mainly gets infected by the disease.
