Source of Aspiration – It was Naman’s parents who encouraged him to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. Since childhood, Naman’s father used to tell him and his sister about the power wielded by civil servants, stories of IAS officers and that is when Naman decided to take up civil services as a career and started preparing for the entrance exam.
“From a young age, we used to listen to stories about IAS officers and the role they play toward society from my father. It influenced me and my sister to pursue this career path. Also, during my college days in Delhi, we used to participate in conclaves and listen to expert talks from senior diplomats, which shaped my perspective.” |
- Naman’s father is Neeraj Kumar Singla is a government employee who works at the Secretariat in Chandigarh.
- While his mother Monica Singla serves as a Senior Manager in Punjab National bank, Patiala.
- Naman’s sister gave an unwavering support in his UPSC preparation. She helped him with note preparation and studies. Naman’s sister is also preparing for UPSC and will appear for the exam this year.

- Naman Singla started his Civil services exam preparation in 2020 after completing his graduation.
- To start off his preparation Naman Kumar Singla joined a coaching institute in Delhi but the nationwide lockdown because of Covid made him start focusing on self study.
- Naman believes that studying for long hours isn’t practical and just a hoax. He did not have any fixed time for study. It was purely based on the amount of time required by the topic.
- Naman followed journals to upkeep about foreign affairs, policies etc. for international relations.
- He never stopped using phones but advises to use phones wisely for preparation and avoid distractions from it.
- He used to watch TV debates, and English news channels.
