SBI PO Exam Pattern 2019

State Bank of India recruits SBI Probationary Officers (PO) by selecting eligible candidates for the management cadre positions in the bank. The SBI PO Exam Pattern comprises three phases:

(i) Online Prelims Exam,

(ii) Online Mains Exam, and

(iii) Interview Process.

SBI Exam Pattern for Probationary Officer Exam

The SBI PO exam is a 3-tier process. Primarily, the first two stages of the PO exam pattern include one online written exam each for Prelims & Mains, accompanied by a Group Exercise & Interview round.

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern

In this SBI PO paper pattern, the applicants need to solve SBI PO question paper of 100 marks and it’s divided into 3 sections. Each question bears 1 mark each with a cumulative duration of 60 minutes.

The SBI PO Preliminary Exam was held on 8th, 9th, 15th & 16th June 2019. The different sections under the SBI PO Prelims pattern include the following:

The selection in the SBI PO Prelims exam is completely based on merit. Only candidates who have secured aggregate marks in the SBI PO exam pattern (Prelims) are eligible to qualify for the Mains Exam.

Penalty: There is a penalty of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. Luckily, there is no deduction for unattempted questions left blank by the examinee.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern

The SBI PO Mains pattern consists of 155 questions to be answered by candidates within a time span of 3 hours. The cumulative duration of the test is 180 minutes.

There are two different types of tests as per the SBI PO Mains pattern:

  1. Objective Test
  2. Descriptive Test

The Objective test has separate timing for each section and the Descriptive test of the SBI PO question pattern is timed at 30 minutes with two questions of 50 marks which primarily assesses the candidates’ capacity to use written English language skills like essay or letter writing.

The SBI PO Mains exam was held on 20th July 2019. The SBI PO exam pattern (Mains) is classified into 4 different sections which are listed below with the respective timings.

SBI PO Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI)

This is the final stage of the SBI PO exam for a candidate who successfully clears the Prelims & Mains Exam of SBI PO.

In this SBI PO exam pattern, the shortlisted candidates are called in for a GD-PI session wherein they need to discuss their past experiences and General Knowledge and Current Affairs while having a final face-to-face interaction with the interview panel of the bank.

The qualifying marks for this PO exam pattern is divided into two rounds:

  1. Group Exercise: 20 marks
  2. Personal Interview: 30 marks

Final Selection

Once a candidate is through the GD & PI round in SBI PO exam, a list of meritorious candidates will be prepared by SBI.

State Bank of India takes into consideration the cumulative score of shortlisted candidates from the SBI PO Prelims, Mains & Interview Round. Based on the available vacancies and total score secured by candidates, the final cut-off points will be announced.
