The Indian School Certificate popularly known as ISC is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for Class 12. The subjects of examination include English as a compulsory subject and a list of elective subjects. The list of electives contains subjects like Geography, Sociology, History, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Home Science, etc.

ISC Board Syllabus

The Indian School Certificate following the ISC syllabus has international value. The ISC Board is the most systematic and disciplined board in the country, even in the case of conducting exams and declaring the results. The difficulty level of the subjects is equally distributed so that students won’t feel pressurized as they move to higher classes. The syllabus has been reformed in order to match the level of CBSE or other competitive exams like JEE.

Does ISC board pass every student? What are the passing marks in each subject in ISC?

Students rarely fail in ISC examination because of easy papers, internal markings and lenient checking which leads the students to easily pass the examination. But, some students are unable to cross the pass mark due to some reason. The passing marks in each subject in ISC Board is 35% which was earlier 40%.

Is the ISC board tougher compared to the other boards?

When it comes to syllabus there is not much difference between ISC and other boards. ISC Board English is considered tougher as compared to other boards and other core subjects are more or less similar. Scoring well in ISC Board is easier due to lenient checking. When it comes to weightage both ISC and CBSE are given equal weightage.

What are subject choices in ISC?

For ISC Board students English is a compulsory subject and 29 elective subjects out of which students need to opt for 3, 4 and 5 of them depending on their choice of stream and the options the college will provide.

How do you calculate the percentage of ISC if there are six subjects?

ISC Board selects the best four subjects out of the six subjects. There are 5 groups in which the marks of Literature and English are combined and calculated out of 100. Out of the rest 4 subjects, 3 subjects are selected in accordance with the highest mark obtained, basically best 3 out of 4.
