The key difference between nerves and veins is that nerves are an axon bundle of neurons forming a part of the peripheral nervous system carrying nerve impulses, while the veins are blood vessels that give back deoxygenated blood towards the heart. There is a difference in the size of nerves and veins as well.
Nerves
- These are cable-like structures found in the body, framed for the conduction of the nerve impulses relaying information from one to another part of the body. They form a part of the nervous system
- Nerves are typically composed of bundle of fibers enclosing layers of fat and tissue spreading across the body
- Involved in the control and coordination of all parts of the body
- Nerves are functional in passing information through the axons to the target structures
- In addition to sending and receiving messages, they also process them into chemical signals, referred to as impulses
Veins
- These are tube-like blood vessels found all through the body
- These translucent structures operate by passing deoxygenated blood from tissues to the heart for it to get oxygen-rich again
- Except for the pulmonary veins (it carries oxygenated blood) and umbilical veins, all the veins carry impure blood
- Blood in veins flows with a lower speed and pressure
- These walls of veins are found just underneath the skin and are thin
