NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is an entrance exam held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India for those students who are aiming for medical and dental courses at the graduate and post-graduate levels. It usually includes MBBS and BDS courses provided by private and government colleges in the country. The exam is based on a one-tier system. Exam Pattern of NEET
The AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) for medicine has been replaced successfully by NEET Exam. In addition to this, the Supreme Court has finalized that NEET scores would be the only way to gain admissions in colleges running medical courses at the graduate and postgraduate levels across the country. Additionally, NEET now stands as the only medical entrance test in the country to be qualified in order for students to seek admission to undergraduate medical programmes, even scrapping entrance tests by JIMPER and AIIMS.
Candidates preparing for NEET should know the NEET Exam Pattern and syllabus, which can help them to prepare better for the examination. NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is an offline exam with a time duration of 3 hours 20 minutes. A total of 200 questions appear, out of which 180 MCQs must be answered in the NEET exam from Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology). Each question carries 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. The NEET question paper is asked in a total, of 13 languages. NEET 2022 Latest Exam Pattern – NEET Question Pattern
The National Medical Commission (NMC) specifies the NEET-UG 2022 syllabus. The question paper for NEET 2022 will be on the basis of this syllabus. NTA has decided to provide a choice in Section”B” for each section/subject in NEET 2022.
Consequently, the pattern has two sections. Each of the subjects has 2 sections –
- Section A – 35 Questions
- Section B – 15 Questions
Out of these 15 questions appearing in section B, candidates could attempt any 10 of these questions. Hence, the total number of questions remains the same. In fact, this time, extra 20 minutes are added, summing up the total time duration to be 200 minutes for NEET-UG 2022. In the event where a candidate has attempted more than 10 questions from section B, only the first 10 attempted questions will be considered for evaluation
NEET-UG 2022 – Marking Scheme
- Each question carries 4 marks
- A correct answer fetches 4 marks for each question
- 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer
- If, after the process of challenging a key, more than one option is found to be correct, then any/all one of the multiple correct options which are marked will be awarded 4 marks
- No marks are awarded if questions are left unanswered or unattempted
- If all options are found to be correct, then 4 marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question
- If none of the options is found correct or if a question is found to be wrong or is dropped, then all candidates who have appeared will be awarded 4 marks regardless of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate
Total Marks of NEET – NEET total marks 2022
The question paper of NEET is asked for a maximum of 720 marks, 180 questions to be attempted, wherein each question carries 4 marks. A new change in the pattern of NEET is the introduction of sections A and B.
NEET exam total marks
Section A
For each section – Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany – 35 questions are asked under Section A. Students must answer all these questions, there is no choice of selection in this section. Negative marking exists in both sections A and B. The maximum marks that can be scored in this section are 35*4=140 marks.
Section B
Candidates can attempt any 10 questions out of the 15 questions provided. In the event that a candidate has attempted more than 10 questions, only the first 10 questions that are attempted will be evaluated. The maximum marks that can be scored in this section are 10*4=40 marks.
Hence, totally 140 + 40 = 180 marks can be scored in each of the sections – Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Zoology. Physics and Chemistry section, each are asked for 180 marks while Biology section is asked for 360 marks.
